Of the one billion people economists classify as abjectly poor-that is,
people who live on less than one US dollar or P55 per day-some 700 million live
in Asia. Altogether, about 1.9 billion Asians live on $2 or less per
day.- P55 a day, Editorial, INQ7.net
True Enough. I could remember back in high school when my baon was 50 pesos - that time, a dollar is worth 52.25 pesos. Barely enough for a 15 peso burger, 10 peso softdrink and a 25 peso lunch meal.Just last semester, I live on 40 pesos daily... lunch and dinner combined:
lunch
vegetable meal = 10 pesos
2 cups of rice = 10 pesos
dinner
5 one-peso hotdog slices = 5 pesos
2 cups rice = 10 pesos
Most people I know here in the metro survives with only a hundred peso on their pockets. Well, that's too much for grade schoolers, unless they're network games addicts. My boardmates' daily allowances range from 100 to 150 pesos. They still have the luxury to go to computer shops or buy out-of-merienda-time snacks.
